Family Services' Centennial Celebration promises to brighten 2009 with three exciting events. . . a wine tasting on May 7th, a concert at the Palace Theater on June 5th featuring Diana Krall (a Grammy Award winning jazz singer), and a Masquerade Gala at the Aqua Turf on October 29th.
In keeping with our commitment to excellence in all we do, our Centennial Celebration events will give our donors and other friends high quality, high value experiences. Attending the events will help create more awareness for Family Services and help raise funds that will allow us to reach more people throughout our 43 community service area.
 Wine Tasting - Our centennial wine tasting will be held at the Timexpo Museum on May 7th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. John and Carlos Nejaime of Nejaime's Fine Wine & Liquors of Watertown and Newtown will provide the wines and distributor representatives will discuss various wines and entertain questions from the guests. A representative from Riedel Glass will also provide information on the appropriate use of glassware for serving wine. Both wine and wine glassware will be on sale. In addition to the wine tasting both hot and cold hors d'oeuvres will be served. Tickets are $40 per person and are available by calling Anna Josephson at 203-591-2390.
Diana Krall Concert - Family Services is pleased to sponsor a concert with two-time Grammy Award winning singer Diana Krall at the Palace Theater on June 5th. Diana will debut her new album 'Quiet Nights' at the concert. Diana is a pianist and jazz vocalist whose accomplishments have brought her worldwide fame and an international following. There are four ticket prices: Gold Circle at $125, Orchestra at $75, Lower Balcony at $65, Upper Balcony at $55. A wine and beer reception will be held before the concert at cost of $25 per person with cash bar available. Diana is scheduled to appear at the reception. Tickets to the reception can be purchased at the same time concert tickets are purchased. Masquerade Gala - Our Masquerade Gala on October 29th at the Aqua Turf in Southington promises to be an exciting evening with great food, a live band for dancing, super auction items, and special guests. We'll keep you updated with more details in the weeks ahead, but this is one evening you won't want to miss so mark your calendars now.
More about Diana Krall:
Diana Krall was born in British Columbia, Canada. She was raised in Nanaimo, a small community on Vancouver Island, where she began performing professionally at the age of 15 as a jazz pianist. In 1981, Diana won a Vancouver Jazz Festival scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston and, after a year and a half of serious study, she returned to British Columbia.
Renowned bassist Ray Brown heard her playing one night in Nanaimo and convinced Diana to move to Los Angeles where she obtained a Canadian Arts Council grant to study with Jimmy Rowles. Jimmy encouraged Diana to explore her vocals to supplement her already blossoming piano skills.
Diana won the Grammy for 'Best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year' in both 1999 and 2003 for her albums "When I Look into Your Eyes" and "Live in Paris" respectively. She received the Order of British Columbia in 2000 for being a good-will ambassador for British Columbia and epitomizing Canadian culture.
She is married to Elvis Costello and they have twin sons, Dexter and Frank, born in December 2006.
